The mission of Equality Illinois is to secure, protect and defend equal rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (“LGBT”) people in Illinois. Founded in 1991, we are the state’s LGBT equality advocacy organization. Equality Illinois has been a key leader for ever major LGBT-rights victory in Illinois over the past 20 years, including: numerous local non-discrimination ordinances, Chicago Human Rights Ordinance, Illinois Hate Crimes Act, Illinois Human Rights Act, Prevent School Violence Act (aka Safe Schools Act), and the recently-enacted robust Civil Union Law.
