Some thoughts and Ideas to Consider:
Why should Students and GSAs Make a Video?
Gay-Straight Alliances in middle school, high school and colleges do AMAZING work to make campuses better places to live and learn. However, not everyone knows what a GSA is or does. There are a lot of misconceptions out there. By highlighting the work GSAs do, we can educate others about how important they are and provide some ideas for other GSAs on how to be even more amazing!
What to include in your video:
- Tell everyone where you’re from
- Talk about projects your GSA is working on (for example: National Day of Silence, a T-shirt campaign, hosting an ally week, a film screening or an LGBT speaker, planning a teacher training, coordinating a speakers bureau, fighting for an LGBT center on your college campus, playing queer kickball, etc.)
- If you don’t have a GSA describe why your school or college needs one and what resources you need to get one started
- Discuss how you or your GSA have made the school or college climate better
- Talk about how your GSA plans to celebrate GSA Day!
Why should Adults Make a Video?
Telling the world about how important it is for LGBT and allied people to come together to fight homophobia, transphobia, bigotry and hate is important. Mentioning that you’re a parent or family member, teacher, counselor, school or college administrator or school board member will send a powerful message.
- Tell everyone where you’re from
- Discuss how you are working to build alliances for LGBT and straight allies (by helping a local GSA, supporting LGBT friends, etc.)
- Talk about how you plan to celebrate GSA Day!
Why should Organizations Make a Video?
People need to know how important GSAs are to your organization and how the fight for equality begins with building alliances.
What to include in your video:
- Tell everyone where you’re from
- Talk about projects your organization is working on (for example: forming an employee resource group for LGBT people, sponsoring other LGBT organizations, etc.)
- Talk about how your organization plans to celebrate GSA Day!
