Across the country, trans and queer youth are working to defend their hard-won rights and freedoms. Many of us feel fearful of the executive orders and legislation coming from the new administration. We stand together to defend our freedom to assemble, our right to safety, the right to have a school GSA club under the Federal Equal Access Act, among many other liberties we deserve. This week, share with us how you defend yourself, your rights and your community by posting online with #TQyouthDEFEND.
Here are some ideas of how you can DEFEND:
- Build coalitions with other organizations on your campus that are fighting for gender and racial justice, like Black Student Associations, Muslim Student Associations, etc. Use this guide to start taking steps in solidarity with each other. We are stronger together.
- Claim your story and defend your journey. Use this resource to learn how to build your story in a way that you feel safe to share with others.
- Be aware of hate groups in your area. Create plans for safe transportation to and from club event, and check in often with your members.
- Refresh yourself on the resources shared during #TQyouthPROTECT and share with your communities.
